Why there's no number yet
“Never a homemade number” is one of the three rules every edition is held to. Product safety doesn't have a published, validated scoring rubric the way public wildfire hazard layers or USPSTF screening grades do — so instead of inventing one, we publish a recall-and-ingredient directory and hold the composite score until the evidence supports it.

Recall history, material and ingredient flags, and known safety advisories — sourced, dated, and never smoothed into a single number.
